The program is mainly directed at University students with an environmental background or similar, but the program is also available as a professional experience for graduates with other backgrounds. So, if you feel that you fit the profile you are more than welcome to apply.

What do we want from you?

We are looking for two highly motivated and hardworking souls with positive energy to join us in accomplishing Ocean Missions’ environmental goals for 2024. Preferred dates would be from May – September. Previous sailing experience, involving ocean research and/or conservation is not mandatory but helpful to scale steps during the selection process. 

Other additional skills in digital marketing, video making, scientific writing, storytelling or fundraising are highly valuable but not mandatory.

This would be you main responsibilities during your time with us:

1. Data Collection and Analysis: Lead and take part in precise data sample, collection and analysis of zooplankton, microplastics, and macro fauna. If you want, you can also take part in eDNA studies and research that we will be carrying out.

2. Education: Educate diverse audiences on the OM work and environmental aspects of our mission along by contributing to our educational program execution.

3. Exhibition Management: Open and manage the OM exhibition, welcome, inspire and engage with visitors, explaining our projects, our researches, our main goals and our victories to all who would be interested.

4. Langanes Tour: coordinate Langanes summer tour, lead beach cleanups, and educational activities with the help of the Ocean Mission’s Cleanup team.

5. Community Engagement: help organizing beach clean-ups in Northern Iceland, contribute to OSPAR Surveys and lead trash classification.

Depending on the skills, the volunteers could also help with the internal work of the organization: video making, digital marketing, fundraising, scientific redaction, etc.

Volunteer/Internship program positions are currently open for 2024 and the deadline for applications is the 14th of February 2024. The final decision will be published latest by mid March 2024
